Dion Fortune once discribed magick as "the art of changing consciousness at will". It strikes me that prayer could alternately be described as "the art of changing consciousness in alignment with God's will". The emphasis in prayer is on ego transcending not strengthening. We are invited to shift our consciousness to ways that are more in accord with faith, hope and love. We are to become channels of God's energetic love. As the apostle Peter says, "Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed" and "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith."
