Thelema is the name of the magical system established by ceremonial magician Aleister Crowley in Liber AL vel Legis (The Book of the Law).
The Law of Thelema is summed up in two phrases from the book:
- “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law” and
- “Love is the law, love under will”
You’ll find Thelema associated with both the O.T.O. and the A:. A:.
But guess what? Thelema, as the Greek word for will, is also found throughout the New Testament. For example, here's the Greek text for Ephesians 1:1 and the English translation: "paulos apostolos christou iesou dia thelematos theou tois hagiois" that is "Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, to God's holy people"
I think the many references to God’s thelema in the New Testament opens up plenty of scope for conversation on thelema and the power of the will in theory and practice.
