Astrology and the Christian
Over the break Bekah asked if I could start a post on astrology.
I must admit I've neglected astrology somewhat, leaving it to my friends Phil Johnson and Simeon Payne to explore in more depth while I focused on meditation, but despite the appearances I do consider astrology a worthy conversation for Christians to engage with. Particularly around Christmas time.
And funny enough, astrology did come up at a BBQ just before Christmas. I forget how it came up precisely, but I was having a conversation with another Christian and somehow we got to talking about the Magi who visited Jesus at his birth. "They were astronomers, not astrologers you know" was the comment that came my way. "Actually, the ancients made no such distinction" was my reply. "But the interesting thing was, however you view astrology, they came to worship the maker of the stars after following that star."
This does however raise some interesting questions about the discomfort many Christians have in admitting the Magi were astrologers. Does it make you uncomfortable even? How should a Christian respond to this stroy?
